The Blue Lake

The Blue Lake (Telaga Biru) is a small, iconic lake located along the Cibodas hiking trail in the Mount Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP), Cianjur Regency. It is a popular spot for both hikers and casual trekkers.

Here is the essential information you need to know about Telaga Biru:

1. Main Attractions

  • Changing Water Color: The lake is named “Telaga Biru” (Blue Lake) because its water often appears bright blue due to the presence of blue algae. However, the color can shift to green, turquoise, or brown depending on the ecosystem cycle and weather conditions.
  • Atmosphere: Located at an altitude of approximately 1,575 meters above sea level, it offers a very peaceful and cool environment, surrounded by lush tropical rainforest.
  • Photo Spot: There is a wooden bridge along the edge of the lake that is a favorite spot for visitors to take photos, as the water acts like a mirror reflecting the surrounding trees.

2. Visitor Information

  • Location: Accessible via the Cibodas hiking trail gate, Sindangjaya Village, Cipanas, Cianjur.
  • Access: It is very easy to reach. From the main Cibodas entrance gate, it is only about a 1.5 km walk (roughly 15–30 minutes) along a well-maintained path.
  • Entry Fee: The cost is included in the official TNGGP entry ticket (approximately Rp16,000 – Rp18,500 depending on the day).
  • Best Time to Visit: It is highly recommended to arrive in the morning (07:00 – 10:00 AM) when the weather is clear, the air is fresh, and the lighting is perfect for photography.

3. Tips for Your Visit

  • Facilities: Keep in mind that there are no facilities like food stalls, toilets, or prayer rooms at Telaga Biru itself. All public facilities are located near the registration post or the Cibodas parking area. Ensure you bring your own supplies (water and snacks) from the starting point.
  • Etiquette: Swimming or polluting the lake is strictly prohibited. Please respect the ecosystem and do not litter.
  • Continuing the Hike: If you have extra stamina, you can continue your journey from Telaga Biru to Curug Cibeureum (a waterfall with red moss walls), which is just about 1.3 km further from the lake.
