Gunung Halimun National Park represents the ecosystem types of lowland rainforest, sub-montane forests and montane forests in Java. Almost the entire forest in this park, situated in mountainous terrain with several rivers and waterfalls, which is the protection of hydrological functions in Bogor Regency, Lebak, and Sukabumi.

Some plants that dominate the forest in Gunung Halimun National Park include Rasamala (Altingia excelsa), jamuju (Dacrycarpus imbricatus), and puspa (Schima wallichii). Approximately 75 species of orchids found in national parks and several of them are rare species such as Bulbophylum binnendykii, B. angustifolium, Cymbidium ensifolium, and Dendrobium macrophyllum.

Gunung Halimun National Park is the habitat of several endangered animals such as gibbons (Hylobates moloch), deer (Tragulus javanicus javanicus), Javan (Presbytis comata comata), ebony leaf monkey (Trachypithecus auratus auratus), Roe (Indian muntjac muntjak), leopard (Panthera pardus), and wild dog (Cuon alpinus javanicus).

There are more or less 204 species of birds and 90 species of them are sedentary birds and 35 species are endemic in Javanese including Javanese eagle (Spizaetus bartelsi). In addition there are two types of endangered birds are CICA Matahari (Crocias albonotatus) and poksai horse (Garrulax rufifrons). Javanese hawk which is identical to the symbol of the state of Indonesia (eagle), quite often found in the Gunung Halimun National Park.

With a wet climate, this national park is the source of several rivers that never dry throughout the year, and eight beautiful waterfalls as well as the potential for nature tourism activities / recreation.

Peoples around the national park is a traditional society of Kasepuhan. The Peoples has a very unique pattern of life and wisdom in managing the forest area around for decades.

Gunung Halimun National Park is a natural tourist attraction which is very attractive, because of the diversity of objects and natural attractions it has. Forest silence sometimes broken by the sound of chirping birds and other wildlife, make this place as the right location to admire nature.

This national park has facilities canopy trail to walk from tree to tree, observing bird life and other wildlife that live in the forest canopy.

The natural beauty of the wildlife, thunderous waterfalls and the gurgling clear small stream ; all of which are natural events which can provide experiences that may not be forgotten, especially for tourists from big cities.

Some locations / attractions to visit:

Cimantaja waterfall, waterfall Piit, Cipamulaan waterfall, waterfall Cihanyawar, waterfall Citangkolo. Exploring the forest, observing plants and animals.

Cikaniki and Citalahab. Camping, attractions canopy trail and observation of plants / animals.

Cibedug temple. Small old temples from the ancient megalithic, located 8 km from Citorek Village.

Mount Halimun (± 1,929 m. Asl), Mount Sanggabuana (± 1.919 m. Above sea level). Exploration and mountaineering.

Other tourist attraction located at the main entrance of Cipeuteuy, is Nirmala tea plantation.

Cultural attractions in the Park include Seren Year ceremony, in July. The ceremony was held in Kasepuhan of Southern Baten  with traditional art performances, ranging from the art that is rare such as whistle, angklung and other typically Sundanese arts.

The best visiting season: June to August every year.
